Job summary
To work independently as an autonomous practitioner by providing specialist assessment and interventions covering the vascular service, for individuals presenting with a range of physical, cognitive, social or perceptual deficits which impact on functional ability and safety within their home environment.
The role aims to ensure a proactive approach to rehabilitation to maintain and improve function and to facilitate timely discharges always thinking 'Home First'
The Band 6 Occupational Therapist will be working closely with Physiotherapy colleagues, as well as the wider multi-disciplinary team. To provide high level of patient care within the vascular service. This will involve providing both formal and informal clinical support where necessary.
We would be prepared to consider a Band 5 to 6 development post, if at interview, you are the best candidate but it is agreed you need a period of time to sign off your Band 6 competencies.
To work with the Band 7 Medical / Surgical OT Team Lead in service development initiatives to meet the changing needs of the Trust.
To provide supervision and leadership for relevant junior and senior members of staff and students on practice placement.
To participate in a 7-day rota including bank holiday and weekend cover as the service develop in the future.
Main duties of the job
- To provide varied assessments and interventions including initial interviews, functional assessments, seating assessments, wheelchair assessments, prescription of equipment and environmental assessments to promote independence and facilitate safe and timely discharges to the most appropriate discharge destination.
- To work closely with physiotherapy to implement pre and post-operative assessments and the acute rehab phase of amputee patients working towards an agreed discharge plan.
- To carry out seating/ wheelchair prescription for amputee patients.
- To plan, manage and prioritise own rapidly changing caseload and have responsibility for the caseload of junior team members.
- To carry out access and home visits where appropriate to advise patients/carers on treatment and provide written reports.
- To provide intervention according to the patient's specific needs with consideration given to their social network/environment,
- To provide assistive/mobility equipment (including wheelchairs and hoists) and be responsible for demonstrating safe and correct use of the equipment.

- Evidence of relevant post graduate clinical courses/continuing professional development and reflective practice
- State registration as an Occupational Therapist

- Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in an acute hospital
