This job is now closed
Job summary
Do you want to become a specialist pharmacist and keep your career options open? Would you like to develop your clinical, research and leadership skills in a world-renowned HIV centre?
Come and join us in Brighton, where you can advance your career in a new purpose-built unit comprising the Lawson Unit (our HIV outpatient clinic) which cares for about 2,500 outpatients, and the 24 bed Regional Clinical Infection Unit, in a role that combines acuity and continuity of care. The majority of your time will be spent providing a service to outpatients and inpatients living with HIV, but you will also gain experience in the care of inpatients with Infectious Diseases and SHAC (Sexual Health and Contraception) outpatients, as well as those enrolled in clinical trials under the care of our HIV/SHAC research team.
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about working in HIV, but prior experience is not necessary as full training will be given. Your existing clinical skills will be fully utilised helping to manage this cohort of patients, in which there is a high prevalence of multimorbidity and polypharmacy.
The HIV/SHAC Pharmacy Team is an integral part of both the wider multidisciplinary team and the Clinical Infection Pharmacy Team, and within our friendly department you will be supported and encouraged to progress your career by engaging in education and training, research, pharmacist-led clinic sessions, and becoming an Independent Prescriber.
Main duties of the job
You will join our specialist pharmacy team providing clinical support to staff and holistic pharmaceutical care to inpatients and outpatients, including:
- staff and patients in the Clinical Infection Unit, as well as HIV patients elsewhere in the Royal Sussex County Hospital and the Sussex Beacon (a charity providing specialist care and support for people living with HIV)
- staff and patients in the Lawson Unit (including joint specialist clinics eg frailty, liver, memory, renal, TB, women), SHAC, and the HIV/SHAC research team
In addition to working alongside a team of nationally recognised consultants and clinical academics there are many informal and formal training and learning opportunities, including weekly Trust-wide pharmacy education meetings, and a weekly HIV/SHAC 'Education Hour', as well as the possibility of attending national and international HIV conferences.
Please call or visit if you want more information - we look forward to meeting you.
