Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Cardiac team as a Fixed Term Interventional Consultant Cardiologist, complementing the existing 15 full time and 2 part time consultant cardiologists, 6 cardio-thoracic surgeons and 6 cardiac anaesthetists.
This is a Fixed Term post for 6 months.
The clinical duties of the post include the following:
- 2 Out-patient clinics
- Catheter Lab sessions
- Working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary teams
- Audit and education
- In-patient duties - Team of the Week consultant (1:12)
- Primary angioplasty rota
The post holder will be responsible for providing consultant support for Team of the Week, consultant delivered acute cardiology rota 1:12 frequency.
The post will be predominantly based at Royal Sussex County Hospital site though the successful candidate could be expected to work within the entire UHSussex network.

Job responsibilities
Cardiac services are provided at the Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH), Brighton and at the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH), Haywards Heath. There are four fully equipped cardiac catheter laboratories, encompassing a dedicated EP laboratory and a hybrid theatre. There are two cardiac catheter laboratories on the Worthing site.
Cardiology clinics are currently provided at RSCH, PRH, Lewes Victoria Hospital, Hove Polyclinic, Seaford Medical Centre, Uckfield Community Hospital and E. Grinstead. In addition to the general cardiac clinics we offer the following Specialist Clinics:

Inpatient Services
A&E is provided on all Trust sites. Inpatient cardiac care and treatment is provided at RSCH, with rapid transfer of appropriate patients from PRH.

- Cardiac Imaging 4 x1.5T Cardiac compatible MRI Scanners, Dual Source Siemens Cardiac CT
Treatments / Procedures (main):
Cardiac Surgery (all adult, not transplant)

- CTO, rotablation, IVUS, OCT
- Complex electrophysiology, atrial and ventricular ablation
- Simple and complex device implantation with lead extraction including laser
- Transcatheter valve replacement / intervention
- Paravalvular leak closure
- ASD / VSD / PFO Closures
- Advanced ECHO including stress and trans-oesophageal echocardiography
- Cardiac CT and MRI
The post is full time position. The provisional job plan outlined in the table below.
The post holder will spend between 2- 3 sessions in the catheter lab per week undertaking intervention/structural cases, with additional sessions covering leave.
They will support in-patient and outpatient care for general cardiology patients and contribute to a 1:12 Team of the Week rota.
They will participate in and develop clinical and organisational clinical governance processes to improve service
The post holder will be expected to participate in the interventional cardiology consultant on-call rota.
The educational and clinical supervision of junior staff are expected as standard participation in departmental job planning, the annual appraisal system and activities of the specialist medical directorate is mandatory
