An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 position scrub practitioner. We are looking for a highly motivated, committed and enthusiastic qualified Adult nurse or Operating Department Practitioner.
The unit currently consists of 2 operating theatres and 1 hybrid theatre which operate from 07:30 to 17:30 Monday - Friday for elective cases.
We also run a 24 hour emergency on-call service 7 days a week 365 days per year. This consists of one night per week and one weekend per month. On calls are non-resident and staff are provided with a shared bleep. This role will involve an on call commitment.

Main duties of the job
In support of the Cardiac Theater manager the post holder contributes and actively participates in the smooth running of the two cardiac theaters and one hybrid theater.
Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to other professional groups (e.g. equipment failure, special requests from medical staff).
To act as the patients advocate respecting patient privacy and dignity
The post holder is a confident and competent practitioner responsible under supervision of providing effective safe research based patient care.

Communication:
- To act as a role model by demonstrating excellent communication and listening skills with patients, relatives and staff
- Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to other professional groups (e.g. equipment failure, special requests from medical staff)
- To ensure that there are high standards of documentation and care planning in all areas of practice and that documentation standards are consistent across all areas.
- Ability to discuss complex issue, planning of care, advising others regarding management of care within the cardiac perioperative area.
- Maintenance of surgical register, in accordance with national and trust policies.
- To act as the patients advocate respecting patient privacy and dignity.
- Communicate and interact with other departments within the cardiac unit.
Service Delivery and Improvement:
- Assist and support the theatre manager in the effective management of the department in accordance with the Trusts Personnel Policies and Procedures.
- To co-ordinate daily departmental activities and maximise department resource potential with supervision from senior staff.
- To identify areas for service improvement, and participate in the implementation of appropriate actions monitoring the effectiveness of the change
- Plan own work load and other junior staff effectively.
- Assist in monitoring budgetary expenditure in relation to the care Centre and theatre department, identifying and applying cost-efficient practice.
- Undertakes Tendable, i.e., infection control, hand hygiene, audits and feeds back areas for improvement required developing and implementing action plans.
- Implement new theatre procedures, prepare and instigate new departmental policies when required.
- Assume on call responsibilities alongside a senior member of the team dealing with emergency surgery.
- Under supervision utilises information technology for operating theatre administration. (Care flow, HESSDA)
- Ensure that Health and Safety and COSH regulations are complied with.
- Participates in the ethos of Clinical governance ,particularly with relation to risk management, reporting and handling clinical incidents.
- Maintain and repair equipment within the department.
- Ensure adequate cleaning of theatre as per policy.
