Job summary
St Richard's Hospital is currently the largest NHS bariatric surgery provider in the south of England.
This post will focus on the preoperative assessment, multi-disciplinary team decision making, safe anaesthetic delivery and post-operative care of patients attending for bariatric surgery.
This post is ideally suited to CT3+ candidates looking to improve their experience with more high-risk patients, MDT clinics and also gain experience in audit and research. Our fellows have a long history of successful publications and presentations at national and international meetings, thus improving their success in future job applications.
The post will be available from August 2023 for 12 months, and will be supervised by Dr Michael Margarson, Consultant Anaesthetist and Intensivist with an interest in Bariatric Anaesthesia.
This post will leave the trainee confident and experienced in all aspects of the anaesthetic and peri-operative management of the morbidly obese for both bariatric and for non-bariatric surgery.
There is funding available to support a PGCert and other educational opportunities on discussion with College Tutor.
Main duties of the job
This post will focus on the preoperative assessment, multi-disciplinary team decision making, safe anaesthetic delivery and post-operative care of patients attending for bariatric surgery.
There will be particular focus on peri-operative high dependency care for patients with known or presumed significant Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.
