Job summary

Clinical Fellow in Anaesthetics CT2+ equivalent

This post offers the opportunity to gain broad clinical experience and the potential to prepare for competitive ST4 application in a busy teaching hospital with a wide range of subspecialties and non-clinical activities. Specifically there will be an opportunity to complete the additional ICM required for application for ST4 posts from 2023 onwards.

Other clinical and CV enhancing opportunities are available in our department. Examples include:

Trauma & stabilisation

Perioperative medicine

Vascular/high risk surgery

Obstetrics

Exposure to Global health care project planning and involvement with those under way.

Training and educational supervision will be provided to the level of the KSS Graduate Education and Assessment Regulations and the post holder will be encouraged to take an active involvement in all departmental activities including Audit and Research.

Due to the service commitments of the post, it is NOT suitable for doctors with no prior NHS experience. A previous post in the NHS is desirable, but completion of a clinical attachment in the NHS is required as a minimum.Start date is August 2023 but ideally as soon as possible.

Main duties of the job

1:7 or 1:8 ON CALL - usually covering ICU or obstetrics at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath; subject to competencies, post-holders will often be asked to cover each rota for at least one block during the year. This site has two non-consultant grade anaesthetists on site out of hours, with off-site consultant support.

Flexibility may be required to participate in one of four non-consultant anaesthetic on call rotas on the RSCH site in Brighton, if suitable/feasible.

Training lists will be provided in a variety of anaesthetic subspecialties; a proportion of distantly supervised lists will be offered/ expected according to competences of the post holder and departmental need.
