  • Based at Crawley HQ (with travel across the Trust)

An exciting opportunity to join a busy NHS Ambulance Service in our Finance Team as a Finance Business Associate to provide specialist finance and business advice, guidance and support to a range of Operations Managers and clinicians, assisting the Finance Business Partners in delivering a robust operational and financial management whilst improving cost effectiveness.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will ensure the provision of an accurate and timely finance and management accounting information service to senior Finance managers. Provision of a finance information service to budget holders and maintenance of the Trust's budgetary systems.

Responsible for supporting and assisting clinicians and business managers in redesigning services to improve the quality of care and patient experience in a financially sustainable manner.

The FBA will be responsible for assisting the Finance Business Partner in providing financial support to the senior Finance team and budget holders to achieve financial control and effective budget management and to facilitate the delivery of the Trust's financial targets.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for

  • Assisting the FBP in providing financial support to the senior Finance team and budget holders to achieve financial control and effective budget management and to facilitate the delivery of the Trusts financial targets
  • Ensuring accurate and timely monthly management accounting information is produced and clearly reported, with the key income and expenditure variances appropriately analysed and presented in a user-friendly manner so that the senior Finance team can effectively evaluate financial performance

  • Identifying potential business opportunities, appraising and evaluating the factors which may impact on decision making and recommending strategies for adoption.

  • Translation and realisation of clinical strategies and annual objectives through strategic financial plans and annual budgets. This will include continuous improvement in safety, effectiveness, patient experience and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure effective, rigorous and complete in-year delivery of the business unit financial plan which maximises the scope for further investment and development opportunities.
  • Proactively develop specific plans and supporting detail to drive the support needed from all parts of the Finance Directorate and other corporate functions.

  • CCAB Intermediate or Finalist or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience, working in management accounting.
  • Previous experience of monitoring budgets and variance analysis
  • Experience of preparing monthly accounts including variance analysis, accruals and prepayments, and forecasting
  • Experience of managing employees

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working within the NHS, preferably within an NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Experience in the use of E-Financials software packages.
  • Experience in the use of Business Objects
  • Experience of developing activity, income and expenditure forecasts, including the modelling of different scenario

Skills

Essential

  • Substantive experience in the production and reporting of budgets, forecasts and management accounts
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office, notably Excel to intermediate level
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and critical reasoning skills.
