This is an exciting opportunity to join our small Medicines Governance Team at South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic ACT Pharmacy Technician to join our busy and expanding team. You must be forward thinking with a can do attitude and have great organisation and communication skills.

The Medicines Distribution Centre is key in providing an excellent medicine service to our clinicians across Surrey, Sussex and Kent . So, if you are looking to expand your knowledge in a different NHS sector we would love to hear from you

Main duties of the job

  • Assist in the management of the Medicines Distribution Centre to ensure that packing of medicines is in line with best practice standards, this may include -
  • Implementing policies
  • Proposing changes to working practices & procedures with consideration for impact on other areas
  • Developing and implementing SOPs within own area
  • Suggesting changes to policies that impact beyond own area
  • Developing & delivering training to staff
  • To support and oversee projects as and when required, promoting the image of Secamb by working in accordance with our vision and values.
  • Support the development of medicines management services

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Assist in the day to day running of medicine packing within the MDC to include organising staff rotas and allocate resources appropriately.
  • Provides supervision and management for the pharmacy support workers including performance issues.
  • Deputise for the MDC manager when required for urgent situations eg MHRA drug recalls. Ensuring all drug alerts received are assessed for relevancy and that appropriate action is taken within the required timescales.
  • When required undertakes research and development activities; prepares clinical trial drugs
  • Ensures that the purchasing of medicines remains within the parameters of the drugs budget.
  • Authorised signatory for medicines related purchase orders.
  • Assembles and Quality checks Secamb drug pouches using a process that is in accordance with UK medicines legislation.
  • Oversees all aspects of controlled drugs including ordering, safe storage, registers, record keeping, disposal and audits.
  • Analyse medicines data to make informed purchasing decisions based on cost effectiveness of intervention.
  • To manage an accurate record of outstanding stock orders for Secamb sites and ensure the appropriate communication and action is taken to obtain the supply or an approved alternative is supplied.
  • Manages the inventory computer system (Aceso) at the MDC, checks orders and stock to ensure that data is accurate
  • Develop and sustain productive working relationships with colleagues internally and externally to develop medicines optimisation and improved patient care.
  • To assist with the investigation and management of adverse medicine management issue where appropriate.
  • Produce and review stock lists on a periodic basis
  • Manage and deal with several complex problem-solving issues around medicines

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent
  • Registered with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Accredited Pharmacy Technician qualification
  • Good interpersonal skills

Desirable

  • Previous line management experience
  • Knowledge of GMP (Good manufacturing practice)
