Job summary

To join a dynamic psychology team within a supportive Trust in Oxleas. To help support the work of the psychology team within a multi-disciplinary community learning disability team. The post will involve supporting and involvement in a wide range of specialist assessment and interventions for adults with a learning disability alongside related administration, completion of audits, service evaluation and project work. There will also be opportunities to undertake clinical work under supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist and support the psychological care of clients within the service, across all sectors of care and within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures. The post is also key in supporting a wide range of community projects involving working with partner organisations to improve the quality of life of our clients.

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake a range assessments with people with a learning disability (including related to service eligibility, therapeutic support, complex behavioural needs and dementia.
  • To assist in the formulation of people with a learning disability's needs, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist.
  • To assist in the co-ordination and running of therapeutic groups or clinical projects.
  • To work with other staff to contribute to multi-disciplinary discussions or care guidelines as agreed with the clinical psychologist providing supervision.
  • To undertake data collection, data inputting, analysis and the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programmes
  • To assist in report writing and presentations.
  • To support the delivery of a range of therapeutic and community groups.

Clinical

To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of clients applying psychological theory, including neuropsychological tests; risk assessment; self-report measures; rating scales; direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care, under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.

To develop formulations and deliver therapeutic interventions involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a clients problems as part of a care plan, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist.

To assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic and/or psycho educational groups or clinical projects.

To work with other staff to assess or support service users in community or inpatient settings and contribute to multi-disciplinary discussions or care guidelines as agreed with the clinical psychologist providing supervision.

To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings where care takes place.

IT responsibilities

To create graphs or charts to collate or summarise data.

To assist in producing visual material or user-friendly information for interventions with clients.

To update the RIO and/or any other patient records database in relation to contact with clients.

Research

To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects.

To undertake data collection, analysis, the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programmes.

To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research to assist qualified clinical psychologists and other professional colleagues where appropriate in evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.

Communication

Ability to communicate sensitive, information to patients, carers and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance.
