Job summary

This post will work under the direction of the NHSE Health and Justice SE team. The SE Region Specialised Commissioning and Health & Justice team is responsible for managing a significant number of contracts, with a budget of £3.2 billion.

The team is also responsible for all Health & Justice functions in the South East which includes:

HM Prisons (Category B-D)

Young Offenders Institutions (prisons for 15-21 year olds)

Immigration Removal Centres (IRC) (Holding centres for foreign nationals awaiting decisions)

Secure Children's Homes (provide care and accommodation for young people who have been placed by local authorities)

Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARC) (one stop location where female and male victims of rape and serious sexual assault can receive medical care and counselling, assist the police investigation, including undergoing a forensic examination)

Liaison and Diversion (L&D)

NHSE will work in collaboration with the Home Office to deliver healthcare services at the Western Jetfoil and RAF Manston sites. The post is initially for one year but is expected to be extended to two years or permanently.

Main duties of the job

Key aspects of this role will be:

Improving quality and outcomes

  • Ensure that the services that are commissioned demonstrate efficiency, productivity, sustainability and value for money continuously proving the quality of care.
  • Develop systems within the contracting process that clearly identify the level of expected performance against contracts, monitor and take appropriate action to address variation or poor performance.

Enabling clinical leadership

  • Ensure that clinical leadership is central to the delivery of all NHS England/NHS Improvement activities.
  • Work collaboratively across the NHS England and NHS
  • Improvement matrix, including integrating the National Director's portfolio with the Domain Leads.

Enabling patient and public involvement

  • Act as a champion for patients and their interests and involve the public and patients in the policy development and decision-making of NHS England.
  • Ensure all public and patient contact with the office is of the highest professional standard.
  • Embed patient and public involvement within NHS England at all levels of decision making.
  • Set up processes and systems to receive regular patient feedback to inform the commissioning process
