Job summary
To provide specialist behavioural assessment, formulation and intervention to clients of the Intensive Community Support Team (ICST) across all sectors of care. To work with professional colleagues to provide holistic assessment of complex service user needs. To provide advice on service design and individual clients needs to statutory and voluntary service providers. To provide training on behavioural approaches to staff, carers and other professionals and relevant others. To provide supervision to support staff and to participate in the training of psychologists / behaviour specialists and relevant others. To provide expertise on the safe management and prevention of challenging behaviour including appropriate physical interventions. To undertake research and audit, for policy and service development within the area served by the team/service.
NB Although the postholder will initially be based in the Bromley CLDT, they will work with service users in Oxleas Learning Disability Sub-Directorate, who may originate from Bexley or Greenwich. The post holder may therefore be based within either the boroughs of Bexley or Greenwich, or both. This may need to be varied in discussion with manager.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide specialist behavioural assessments of clients referred to the ICST usually based on applied behavioural analysis. This involves the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care.
2. To formulate and implement plans for the appropriate treatment, intervention and/or management of a client's emotional, behavioural, and developmental problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client's problems, and employing ethical methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of team and care settings and across agency boundaries.
3. Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the challenges experienced by the individual, family, group or service.
4. To facilitate / participate in psychological therapy groups as identified by service need.
5. To be responsible for the assessment, treatment, intervention and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by psychologically/behaviourally-based standard care plans.
6. To produce and facilitate the production of challenging behaviour guidelines, behavioural management plans and risk assessments.
