Job summary
The Fun and Fitness programme is an innovative approach to supporting adults with learning disabilities towards a more active and healthy lifestyle. Since 2021 around 200 service users have accessed the project in which people with learning disabilities are supported to access exercise groups offered in an enjoyable, social setting. The project which is delivered as part of a partnership between Oxleas, Royal Borough of Greenwich and Better leisure provider has been shown to support statistically significant improvements in the physical and mental health of participants. Fun and Fitness has been developed in partnership with service users and was shortlisted for the 2023 Health Service Journal's Learning Disability Development of the Year. The current programme includes core exercise groups, advanced groups in which members are taught how to use gym equipment and a swimming group.
The current post holder has also gained a wealth of other clinical experience related to assessing and responding to the clinical needs of adults with learning disabilities whilst in post. Whilst the current post is advertised for 15 hours per week, there may be opportunities to increase the number of hours).
We are seeking an enthusiastic and energetic team member with either a psychology degree or an appropriate NVQ Level 4 qualification to contribute to this exciting project and the work of the service more generally.
Main duties of the job
The post involves supporting the Fun and Fitness programme via:
- Maintaining communication with group members and carers.
- Being available to support group members before, during and after groups.
- Gathering and analysing data related to the impact of the groups.
- Liaising with partner organisations to continue to develop and expand the programme (there are plans for for specialist groups for individuals' with highly complex needs, a football group and a multi sports group).
