Job summary

As part of our Preschool ASD Speech and Language Therapy team, you will provide assessment, advice and interventions for preschool age children with social communication differences and ASD. You will see children in clinic, Early Years settings and occasionally in client homes.

You will be based at Acorns, Queen Mary's Sidcup but will also be required to work at other clinics and Children's centres across the Bexley borough.

You will have the opportunity for regular interaction with other members of the wider team, and access to administrative, managerial and clinical support, with regular clinical supervision every 6 weeks. Training and career development is well supported within Oxleas with the opportunity to attend both internal and external training. Examples of training recently accessed include; Intensive Interaction, Attention Autism and the Curiosity Programme, Hanen More than Words, Gestalt Language processing.

Main duties of the job

This post is part of the Children's Specialist Services and offers close working with Community Paediatricians and the Autism assessment service, Occupational therapy, Portage, Educational Psychology, Autism Advisory Service and CAMHS.

To provide a specialist Speech & Language Therapy (SLT) service to children with social communication differences and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder referred to the Speech and Language Therapy team.

  • Recognised Speech & Language Therapy degree qualification
  • Health Professions Council - Licence to Practice
  • Registered member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapist
  • Evidence of successful completion of a range of generic and specialist short courses at post graduate level, including alternative and augmentative communication

Desirable

  • Diagnostic qualification or aptitude to train, eg. ADOS
  • Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Networks (within relevant area)

Experience

  • At least 2 years clinical experience of assessment and advice for children with speech, language, communication needs, including children with Autism
  • Clinical experience of supporting parents and carers in developing communication strategies and joint care planning
