Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for substantive posts of a Clinical Charge Nurse (Band 6) in the forensic directorate.
We are a Trauma Informed Service, looking for a dynamic, compassionate, and self-reflective individual with good clinical skills. You will support your Clinical Team Leader in the delivery of high-quality care to patients, in which nursing therapeutic and relational skills support our patients to feel safe, listened to, valued, engaged and empowered. You will role model to colleagues how empathy and being curious about patients' traumas, adversity, mental states and behaviours support patients to change.
Through good communication you will support the Clinical Team Leader to lead the management of clinical and risk issues on the ward, emphasising relational security within the physically secure setting, such as providing patient choice, when possible, collaboration and transparency.
You will be supported to ensure appropriate evidence-based practices are used, and this includes Trauma Informed Care.
Your clinical and managerial leadership will recognise the impacts of adverse and traumatic experiences on patients and staff, and you will be motivated to enable all staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
Main duties of the job
You will be joining a supportive senior nursing team responsible for the 24-hour operational management of the service and be charged with supporting with the clinical and managerial leadership of the ward. You will be supported to provide leadership to nurses, ensure effective governance and high-performance standards are in place and are able to support a deliverable vision for the ward.
Most importantly you will be supported by your Clinical Team Leader to ensure that care is delivered in a proactive working environment and that a positive patient experience is achieved. You must also be able to provide supervision, mentorship and leadership for staff at Band 2 to 5.
The Forensic directorate supports a yearly rotation of staff to other wards to acquire new skills, avoid burnouts, and gain the full benefits and experience from working in the Forensic Directorate. The post holder may hence be rotated to another ward to meet service needs when required.
The Forensic Directorate is part of the South London Partnership (with South London and Maudsley NHS foundation Trust and Southwest London and St Georges NHS Trusts) with a lot of opportunities for individual development.
