Job summary

This post is based at Scadbury Ward in Green Parks House. The OT post is important for the successful provision of dynamic; evidence based Occupational therapy for our services users within the older adults acute inpatient setting. Occupational Therapists are responsible for following the OT care pathway by undertaking effective assessment, intervention and discharge planning with service users and their carers.

The post holder will work closely with the Band 6 OT and the Band 3 Therapies Assistant, delegating OT intervention as appropriate and co-facilitating groups. Close working with the multi-disciplinary team will be essential to provide and review a structured, evidence based therapeutic group programme, which may be delivered out of hours, and includes groups for carers. The Band 5 OT will need to be able to work autonomously as there will not always be a Band 6 OT available or on-site. The post holder will ensure Falls Risk Assessments are effectively completed by the nursing team and undertake specialised falls prevention work as part of their Occupational Therapy intervention. The post holder will be actively involved in contributing to service development initiatives for Occupational Therapy and within the Directorate, and are also expected to contribute to undertaking audits related to their field of work.

Main duties of the job

  • To manage a clinical caseload
  • To work as a member of the MDT
  • To support the development of evidence based OT practice
  • To provide OT specific assessment & interventions via groups & individual work related to self care, work, leisure
  • To contribute to service development
  • To carry out home visits when required.
  • To participate in research/audit activities
  • Work closely with Therapies Assistant and OT students on fieldwork placement as agreed with the Clinical Lead OT.
  • Contribute to and carry out risk assessment & risk management plans
  • To provide specialist OT advice to the MDT
  • To work independently without direct supervision
