Job summary

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, compassionate and motivated Psychological Therapist for a post based at the Bracton Centre near Bexley. We will consider part time from 0.6 WTE (22.5 hours) up to full time 1.0 WTE (37.5 hours). Please make your preference clear in your application. The structure of the role may change in response to part time hours. All Mondays and the first Friday of every month are required; there is flexibility for other days.

On a 1.0 WTE basis (subject to amendment if appointed on a part-time basis), the role would comprise:

A majority of the role will be based in secure care (3.5 days). You will hold responsibility for psychology delivery to an inpatient ward for service users with presenting problems that have been unsuccessfully addressed within traditional models of forensic inpatient care, and who may benefit from a more psychosocial, needs-based model. You will have opportunities to work with individual service users as well as group interventions, and to work closely with the nursing team and wider multi-disciplinary team.

You will be supported by a senior psychologist to hold the psychology contribution to the Trauma Informed Care innovation and development process for the Directorate.

To support clinical skills in a psychological-therapies specific setting, the postholder may hold a small clinical caseload in our outpatient psychological therapies service, the William Morris Centre (1.5 days).

Main duties of the job

Further to the above, you will supervise an assistant psychologist and students and trainees undertaking placements for clinical and forensic psychology. The post includes opportunities to undertake CPD, deliver teaching and training, and to undertake and supervise research and audit related to service delivery.

The Forensic Psychological Therapies department in Oxleas provides a breadth of professional opportunities across community, prison and hospital settings and opportunities for research and career progression through ongoing professional development. The post holder will be encouraged to consolidate and further develop their skills and clinical interests in a friendly and supportive multi-professional and multi-agency context. There is access to a network of specialist psychological supervision groups across the forensic directorate. Professionally, psychologists in Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust are highly valued and occupy a variety of directorate and Trust-wide leadership roles, including quality assurance, quality improvement, and operating as Responsible Clinicians.
