We are seeking an experienced senior nurse to support the Executive Director of Nursing by driving the consistent delivery of high standards of care across all our services. Applicants will need to have extensive and broad range of NHS work with significant clinical seniority within the nursing profession. Main duties of the job
- Deputise for the Executive Director of Nursing.
- Trust wide professional leadership and strategic direction for nursing, as a means of supporting nurses to continuously improve the delivery of user and carer centred services.
- Trust wide leadership and professional advice at a senior level, developing policy and strategy in relation to nursing and implement indicators and measures to assure the quality and safety of nursing practice across the organisation.
- To be accountable and responsible for standards of nursing and the delivery of objectives across the following key areas; nursing practice, infection control and nursing education and development and revalidation.
- Specific areas of responsibility to include overseeing nursing developments and education, to oversee nursing research programmes and the development of the nursing research strategy, leading and managing the development and implementation of nursing competencies, lead the development of nursing practice improvements to include safety priorities, physical health care, fundamentals of care, infection prevention and control, medicines management and non-medical prescribing, productivity, and Safe Staffing.
- Provide visible nursing leadership enabling a culture of safety, openness, duty of candour and embedded learning.

- Personally drive the organisations short, medium and long-term strategy in relation to Nursing, through the development, implementation and monitoring of the nursing strategy and nursing practice in mental health, learning disability, prisons and adult and child community health services.
- Provide expert professional nursing advice at all levels within the organisation up to and including, when relevant, the Trust Board of Directors.
- Lead the development, implementation and assurance of the Trust nursing strategy.
- To influence and play a key role in the development of services, the application of new roles, the provision of an appropriately skilled nursing workforce etc in line with national modernisation strategy across mental health, learning disabilities, prisons and adult and children community health services.
- To be responsible for the delivery of relevant national quality standards across the organisation as defined by identified regulatory bodies, compiling evidence of clinical standards and compliance and ensuring assurance can be effectively demonstrated.
- As part of the Directorate management team, make a significant contribution to the development and delivery of a strong performance framework and business planning cycle.
- Deliver programmed financial and activity plans to target, achieving planned efficiencies year on year within the Directorate.
- Conduct the safe staffing reviews of all inpatient wards; produce the biannual safe staffing report and internal and external reporting and analysis of nursing workforce and safe staffing metrics.
- To provide strategic leadership and co-ordinating role for the provision of expert advice to ensure the highest quality patient care. This will involve the ability to communicate information of a highly complex/sensitive/contentious nature where there may be barriers to acceptance in range of situations.
- Lead responsibility for the Trust-wide development of practice which supports quality of patients care by ensuring standards are met through Infection Control, Practice Improvement initiatives, safeguarding, mental health legislation and nursing workforce developments including competencies and education.
- Ensure Trust-wide nursing standards are maintained by establishing audit and research for nursing, peer review structures, lead nurse and modern matrons targets and supervision for lead Nurses and Consultant Nurses across the Trust and competency frameworks.
- Undertake full budgetary and rostering responsibility for nursing services managed within the nursing directorate with responsibility for authorising expenditure and accountability for the expenditure of that budget.
