Mental Health Liaison Nurse, Band 6 Fixed Term/Secondment for 12 months - Full Time - 37.5 hours per week
We have an exciting Secondment opportunity for 2 x Band 6 Mental Health Liaison Nurse Practitioners to join our Mental Health Liaison Team at the Princes Royal University Hospital in the Royal Borough of Bromley.
The post holders will work in the psychiatric liaison service in the Princess Royal University Hospital including the Emergency Department at the Princes Royal Hospital in Borough (and inpatient wards) embedded in the integrated care pathways operating within Oxleas Green Park House.
We are an innovative and outward looking team of psychiatric liaison professionals operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week services for people 18 years old and older adults. This includes working with people who present to the Emergency Department and the wards following self-harm, psychiatric emergencies, ongoing mental health problems and areas such as medically unexplained symptoms.
You will also work alongside the staff in the Mental Health Assessment Unit. This is a dedicated unit which is located at the Princess Royal University Hospital main emergency department / urgent treatment centre entrance. It provides care for patients requiring adult mental health support in line with National emergency care access standards.

Main duties of the job
As a Mental Health Liaison Nurse Practitioner, you will be supporting the patient journey, providing specialist mental health input and support. You will be competent to conduct full mental health assessments and management plans for people that are referred to our service from the general wards and the Emergency Department for a variety of reasons including emotional problems, self-harm and deterioration of their mental state.
You will be required to make clear autonomous decisions based on a variety of complex presenting problems. You should possess excellent assessment and risk management skills alongside excellent intra-personal skills including the ability to communicate with clients and all other health care professionals, and excellent skills in time-management and maintaining appropriate clinical records.
To carry out timely and effective bio psychosocial assessments of individuals referred to the team from the Emergency Department and other wards within the acute trust.
As part of the Liaison Team, you will work collaboratively with our colleagues in the Acute Trust and also work in partnership with the patients and carers who present to our service. The successful candidate will be motivated and enthusiastic; you should have the ability to work autonomously and also as part of our team. All applicants must hold a relevant mentorship qualification, or be willing to undertake this training, or equivalent.

To provide a comprehensive consultation - liaison service to teams and individual clinicians within the acute trust (emergency department and general wards), particularly in assisting them to develop plans of care and make difficult decisions in cases where patients are exhibiting complex psychosocial needs and/or challenging behaviours.
To maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
To ensure that all organisational, policies, procedures and guidelines are adhered to as well as contributing to the development of local ones.

To ensure that own practice and that of junior staff remains within legal, ethical and professional parameters and is open to scrutiny from peers.
