Job summary
Principal Clinical/ Counselling Psychologist (Band 8a) or Preceptorship (Band 7) Permanent - Full Time - 37.5 hours per week
Part-time will be considered.
We are delighted to be able to recruit to this highly innovative and exciting post that covers the pathway between acute in-patient and community mental health services in the London Borough of Bromley. Psychology's contribution to the acute in-patient settings is well established, and the link that these posts provide for service users who are transferring between the in-patient setting and community setting has been shown to be effective and highly valued.
The in-patient component of this post is based in Green Parks House in Bromley, a purpose-built acute admission unit:. The post-holder will join a well established multi-professional team and benefit from close working relationships with the attached Home Treatment Team and Liaison Team.
The community component of this post is based in the CMHT in Bromley (called ADAPT, in Carlton Parade, Orpington). The post holder will join a group of compassionate and highly motivated psychological therapists from a diverse range of backgrounds who hold specialist interests and expertise in working with people who experience severe mental health difficulties including trauma, affective disorders, personality disorders and psychosis.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide comprehensive psychological assessments, brief individual, group and family interventions for service users on the in-patient wards, as well as longer term psychological interventions for service users referred to the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT). A number of service users will benefit from starting a psychological intervention whilst on the in-patient ward and then completing the work with the same clinician in the community. This is a highly innovative model of care aimed to improve the service user's experience of the interface between hospital and community treatment.
The post holder will have proven knowledge and skills in delivering a range of evidence-based psychological treatment models (e.g., CBT, MBT, DBT psychodynamic and/or systemic) and experience of working in secondary care mental health settings. The post holders will also need to be experienced in the psychological assessment and treatment of clients with complex emotional needs, particularly clients who experience severe interpersonal difficulties.
It is expected that the post holder will make a significant contribution to the ward and community staff teams via training, supervision, reflective practice, consultation and psychological formulation.
