Main duties of the job

  • You will work with mainstream school-age children and young people, providing assessment and therapy, with a supportive team of therapists and assistants. This post has arisen due to increased interest from local schools to providehigh-quality EHCP SLT provision.
  • You will work within the integrated Bexley Joint Communication Team, made up of Therapists, Assistants and Advisory Teacher (from Bexley Local Authority). This part of the role involves visits to mainstream schools, assessment, recommendations to schools and opportunities to deliver training together with colleagues. The role involves advice to enable parents, carers and teaching staff to support the children.There are also more opportunities to deliver specific EHCP SLT provision.
  • The Bexley Children's Speech and Language Therapy service offers a range of services with specialist teams across EYs, ASD, Hearing Impairment, Dysfluency, Specialist Resourced Provisions and SEMH. We work closely across teams to provide clinical support and second opinions. We also have opportunities to develop training skills to enhance skills and knowledge for staff working with children with SLCN.
  • You will have at least 1 year experience post completing the NQP Goals and Competencies. There is the opportunity for professional development, and the support of a team of therapists and assistants.

Job responsibilities

  • To provide an assessment, diagnostic and treatment service for children referred to the school aged within the Borough of Bexley. To be responsible for the planning, delivery and evaluation of evidence-based therapy interventions.
  • To demonstrate specialist clinical skills in the assessment and intervention of language disorder which may include Developmental Language Disorder / Language Disorder associated with a bio-medical condition e.g. Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy.
  • To demonstrate specialist clinical skills in the assessment and intervention of autism spectrum disorder
  • To contribute to the formulation and reivew/update of clinical care pathways.
  • To make a differential diagnosis on the basis of evidence from assessment, seeking advice when appropriate. Written reports / care plans will be completely in a timely manner to service users and appropriate agencies.
  • To demonstrate high level of clinical effectiveness by use of evidence based practice and outcome measures. To be a source of expertise and hold knowledge of best evidence based practice in a specialist clinical area that will be shared with other team members
  • To monitor and review the progress of therapy programmes and care plans implemented and facilitate modifications of interventions/targets as appropriate.
  • To demonstrate skills in dealing with complex issues to generate appropriate strategies for caseload and workload management.
  • To adapt practice to meet individual clients circumstances, including due regard for cultural and linguistic differences
