Bexley CAMHS is a friendly, busy and thriving CYP IAPT service, regarded as an accessible and effective service. Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust provides mental health, learning disabilities and community services to the London Boroughs of Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich. The Trust and CAMHS have recently been rated as good by the CQC and has a culture of supporting staff, whilst providing excellent services within a robust clinical governance framework. The post holder is ultimately responsible to the Chief Executive of the Trust, professional accountability is to the Medical Director, Dr Ify Okocha and leave/appraisal and job planning would be with the Clinical Director. The psychiatry profession is well regarded within the Trust as a whole. There are excellent CPD opportunities within the three monthly MAC meeting and monthly CAMHS psychiatry meetings and SPA time is available within the timetable.

The NDLD teams include clinicians from the disciplines of psychiatry, clinical psychology, child psychotherapy, mental health nursing, family therapy, social work and occupational therapy. You will be required to work in close partnership with partner agencies working with young people in Bromley. You will also provide specialist advice and support to professional colleagues both internal and external to the Trust.

The team is responsible for a high throughput of cases and there are clear protocols for transition between the CAMHS teams for children identified with Neurodevelopmental difficulties or escalating needs around self-harm or other significant mental health difficulties. You will be initially undertaking LDND work for a minimum of 6 months, after which a generic component will be introduced into the job following a job planning meeting. The role is likely to be advertised as substantive towards the end of the fixed term contract.

i) To provide community outreach from CAMHS professionals, integrated with School Nurses, with links to Health Visitors and GPs. Early identification of need and facilitate children and young people being able to access the right support at the right time.

ii) To provide specialist mental health advice, consultation and training to the network of community childrens services and evidence-based, outcomes focused interventions to children and young people with emerging mental health difficulties.

iii) Mental health consultation and advice - available to the community of childrens services across Bexley, with dedicated named CAMHS professionals allocated to local care networks, clusters of schools and GPs.

iv) To provide timely advice to facilitate early identification, support community resilience/offer self-help and management strategies, referral, joint assessments and coworking.

v) In-reach to schools will create a system to support children and young people with psychological difficulties that impact on their learning, attainment and participation in school life.

vi) To triage (with the use of psycho-metric measures), advise, signpost, provide targeted consultation to parent and school and formulate plans for maintenance/ relapse prevention or step-up/ referral on; the precise nature of this help will be tailored to the needs of the children, young people and the school staff.

vii) To work with GPs, Social Care, YOS and CAMHS to identify the best ways to structure the liaison so that timely advice, joint assessments / interventions can be available when the need arises.

The consultant psychiatrist in the Bexley CAMHS ND/LD Team will provide assessments and interventions. The post holder will be expected to provide consultation and some clinical supervision to clinicians in the team. The position being advertised (10PAs) is expected to provide approximately 9 to 12 face-to-face assessments/reviews per week- this will vary depending on the complexity of cases. The LDND caseload is anticipated to be 30-40 cases.
