Highly Specialist Psychologist, Band 8a Permanent - full time & part time hours available
Due to additional funding the Greenwich Community Diabetes Team has been able to expand its clinical/counselling Psychology role.
This develops an exciting opportunity to enhance the care the team already offers to the Diabetes patients seen in the community within the borough of Greenwich.
We are looking for two Highly specialist clinical/counselling Psychologist's with preferably experience in physical health and Long Term Conditions (Diabetes) to work closely with and be part of our multidisciplinary team of Highly specialised nurses, dietitians, podiatrist's and Diabetes Consultants.
The team is happy to consider part time, full time and job share.
Main duties of the job
As a senior clinical member of the Community Diabetes Specialist Team the post holder will be responsible for the autonomous provision of a highly specialised psychological therapy service for patients with diabetes, its complications and common mental health problems (e.g. anxiety, depression, eating disorders).
The post holder will develop and lead the service ensuring routine collection, review and feedback of outcome data, and that activity targets are met. S/he will be accountable for the direct provision of a systematic, specialist clinical psychology service ensuring comprehensive, multidisciplinary assessments and a range of psychological interventions appropriate to individuals with diabetes. This will include cognitive behavioural therapy, stress management and psycho-educational input to patient groups and support to patients and their families/carers.
We are a multidisciplinary Highly specialised community Diabetes team.
We work closely with secondary and primary care with clinics run throughout the borough of Greenwich.

Responsibility for choosing and implementing appropriate specialist psychological assessments including neuropsychological assessment for patients diagnosed with diabetes and comorbid mental health conditions (excluding patients under secondary care mental health services)
Responsibility for delivering specific psychological interventions to patients and patient groups using cognitive behaviour, systemic and mindfulness therapies, and, motivational interviewing techniques to support patients to adapt to their condition and make appropriate lifestyle changes
Capability for communicating across social, cultural and language barriers using a wide range of interpersonal skills and techniques depending on the target audience, working with health advocacy groups where necessary
Responsibility for working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality individualised care to patients ensuring that the psychological dimension of diabetes care is not overlooked.

Essential:
- Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996), including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.
- Registration with the HCPC as a clinical psychologist
Desirable:
- Additional post-doctoral training in evidence-based therapies e.g. CBT
- Completion of further post-qualification specialist training or expertise in a distinct therapy relevant to service group (e.g. clinical health psychology)
Experience
Essential:
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient, and assessment and intervention with patients with a wide variety of mental health problems.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
