Job summary
Do you have a passion for working, within an educational setting, on functional communication skills, with pupils with complex needs? Would you want to join The Bexley Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Team, winners of the Children and Young People's Directorate Team of the Year award 2021?
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated therapist to join our Special Schools team to deliver a high-quality clinical service primarily within Shenstone School. Shenstone is currently a primary school catering for pupils aged 4-11 years who are just starting out on a journey to also open a Secondary Site, which will be developed over the next 3 years. Shenstone School is for pupils who have severe and complex learning needs including; Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, Multisensory Impairment, Severe Learning Difficulties and ASD.
In this role you will work alongside 3 other SLTs and 2 Communication Assistants across 3 school sites. There is onsite Band 7 supervision and strong links across the Bexley Special Schools which allow us to share best practice and maintain a high-quality service. CPD opportunities are offered and funded by both the Shenstone Senior Leadership Team and Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
As a SLT within this setting you will support the delivery of the mission, vision and core priorities of the schools. You will provide assessment, interventions, advice and care planning. Over time you will be supported to provide training to school staff, parents and colleagues. The school is a Total Communication Environment. A high proportion of the pupils use Augmentative and Assistive Communication. Multi-disciplinary working with our health and education colleagues is integral to this role. Shenstone Senior Leadership Team provides the Multidisciplinary Team with their own budget for resources.
