An excellent opportunity has arisen for the role of a Part-Time Admin Assistant within Histopathology at the Queen Victoria Hospital! We are looking for a hard-working person who is able to integrate into our small and friendly team. And hours are flexible.
The QVH histology laboratory was the first of its kind to be awarded accreditation against ISO 15189 UKAS and we pride ourselves on the quality of our work. We are currently implementing a new digital histopathology programme for which we require admin support.
We welcome applications from individuals with relevant knowledge and skills to join us in this busy, friendly department which currently handles approximately 20,000 specimens per year and full training will be provided.
Most importantly, the role requires a friendly, enthusiastic and self-motivated person with good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.

You must possess good organisational skills and be able to work as part of a team as well as under your own initiative. The work is interesting and varied and the emphasis is on accuracy and attention to detail. Full training will be given.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- To assist with the smooth daily running of the Digital Histopathology Programme (DHP) and work to prioritise and manage the workload.
- Transport glass slides safely and securely from the histopathology laboratory to the digital scanner area, following agreed protocols.
- Clean slides prior to scanning to ensure high-quality digital images and prevent scanner contamination.
-Retrieval and filing of blocks and slides from lab/store as required
- Operate and monitor digital slide scanners, ensuring slides are correctly loaded, scanned, and logged.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of scanner issues and escalate technical problems to DHP lead as appropriate.
- Track the movement and scanning status of slides using laboratory and digital systems (e.g. LIMS, tracking spreadsheets).
- Accurately enter and update data in digital pathology systems to support case tracking and reporting.
- Carry out routine quality checks on scanned images as per departmental guidelines.
- Responsible for dealing with email requests.
- Responsible for dealing with requests for second opinions and managing requests for referral materials (including BRAF) to be packaged and sent to other hospitals.
- Receive telephone enquiries for results and respond appropriately or redirect to Consultant Pathologist
-Arranging deliveries and packaging cases to be sent for outsourcing to Consultants as other hospitals
-Assist with the preparation of slides for scanning, including organising, labelling, and matching with relevant documentation.
-Support the wider histopathology and digital pathology team with general administrative and laboratory duties as required.
