Job summary
This is a key role within the Trust, working with the Deputy Head of Financial Services and other key members of staff to support and maintain a robust financial control environment within the organisation. This extends beyond the Financial Services unit to the Charitable funds and other external reporting arrangements.
Main duties of the job
To have overall responsibility for the development and implementation of capital accounting policies, within the overall requirements of the Trust's Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions, and within the post holder's area of responsibility post holder will also deliver the monthly accounting and reporting for the Trust's charity. Working with the Deputy Head of Financial Services to take the accounts from Trial balance to Statutory accounts in formats suitable to be delivered to the relevant authorities, within regulatory deadlines.

The Capital and Charity Accountant is a major member of the Finance team and is directly responsible for the management of the Trust's Fixed Asset portfolio and performance of the capital programme to deliver timely and effective implementation without a breach of the Trust Capital Resource Limit.
The post holder is responsible for interpreting and advising on existing or proposed changes to complex accounting policies and practices, contributing to the completion of the monthly Provider Finance Returns (PFRs) to NHSEI and to internal Board and Committee reporting. The post holder has an additional responsibility for managing the Trusts Charity to ensure Charity's obligations can be met from time to time.The post holder will take an active role and support Trust senior managers and other finance colleagues with the development of business cases, to include advising on the highly complex aspects of capital accounting and capital charges, lease accounting and VAT accounting. Additionally, together with other senior Finance colleagues, to support the development of medium and long-term strategic plans for the Trust, that may require significant judgement, technical expertise, assumption and professional sensitivity.
