Specialist Grade Doctor in Anaesthesia
This job is now closed
Job summary
This is a newly created post within the Anaesthetic Department at the Specialist Grade Doctor grade and will include Consultant and Middle Grade level responsibilities. The postholder must be able to work to a high level of performance, autonomy and independence.
The successful applicant will join a close-knit team that supports and delivers a modern, comprehensive anaesthetic service with compassion and professionalism with a commitment to improving our service by embracing change and innovation.
There is no on-call with this post, however in exceptional circumstances the Trust may request emergency cover for colleagues although it recognises that there is no contractual expectation of availability when the Specialist Grade Doctor has no scheduled duties. The successful applicant should have a commitment to the development of a high quality, cost effective service to the local community.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will predominately work at the Queen Victoria Hospital, but will also be capable working off site covering extra theatre sessions at the McIndoe Surgical Centre if required. These sessions have less immediate backup facilities available and will require the candidate to have the necessary experience to be confident working autonomously in a relatively remote location.
We would also expect the candidate to regularly run the emergency NCEPOD list on the monthly Monday mornings when the rest of the theatres will be empty during departmental meetings until 10am.
The duties will include giving anaesthetic services for adults and children, covering all specialties found at QVH. Though you will get support and help from fellow anaesthetists, as a Specialist Grade Doctor we would expect a similar degree of autonomy in your work as we would expect from a consultant. As such experience in difficult airway management is mandatory and the ability to be proficient in regional anaesthesia a bonus.
