Job summary

We are looking for an appropriately qualified and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our team and work with patients with head and neck cancer & ENT related communication and/or swallowing impairments

Queen Victoria Hospital is internationally renowned for Head and Neck reconstructive surgery and this post will involve work with patients pre- and post- surgery as both inpatients and outpatients. There is also a caseload of patients with voice impairments and expertise in this area is desired.

You will also have opportunities to regularly engage in multi- professional activities, both internally and externally, including MDT working groups, networking opportunities across Sussex, and relevant CENs/ study events. .

This role will enable you to use your own initiative to meet the different needs of patients, as well as being part of an experienced, specialist, diverse and friendly Speech and Language Therapy team. The wider team is comprised of SLTs skilled in other medical diagnoses and we pride ourselves on sharing knowledge between our specialities & working closely as a small team.

Main duties of the job

- To manage a caseload of outpatients with voice/ ENT related impairments

- To provide input to inpatient and outpatients with head and neck cancer pre and post surgery/ oncology treatment

- To work as part of a multidisciplinary team

- To improve and develop services in line with patient need

  • oEvidence of relevant postgraduate education and training in advanced dysphagia, tracheostomy management, counselling.
  • oSubstantial SLT experience within an acute hospital environment, including head and neck oncology patients and complex dysphagia.
  • oDemonstration of achievement of locally agreed competencies or willingness to complete.
  • oProven experience in developing, organising and presenting staff training programmes related to specialist field individually and to groups.
