Specialty Doctor Elderly Care Medicine (12 month post)

Salary: £52,530 - £82,400 per annum/pro rata

We are recruiting for a Specialty Doctor in Elderly Care Medicine who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and have the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.
The post holder will work directly with the existing team of 14 Consultant Physicians in Acute Frailty who currently provide a wide range of hospital and community based services including Acute Frailty services as well as running specialist clinics for patients with Parkinson's disease, TIAs, falls and general medical conditions. We have recently started a Rapid Access Clinic for Elderly as part of Frailty- Same day Emergency Care (F-SDEC). Inpatient elderly care wards include 5 acute elderly care wards and an established purpose built Acute Frailty Unit with10 Assessment beds, 22 short stay beds and 2 clinic rooms.. We have opened a 22 bedded Acute Unit based in a Community Hospital in Sheppey.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will join a group of 10 Specialist grade doctors (6 in post) and are expected to participate in inpatient ward rounds on a designated inpatient unit, supervised by a named consultant. The Specialist Grades rotate in 4 months planned blocks to allow gaining experience in a range of Units within the department with opportunity to learn from a number of established consultants within the department.
They need to supervise postgraduate doctors and teach them during the ward round. He/she will be able to independently see patients, formulate appropriate management plans and liaise with the consultant as and when needed. They would be actively encouraged to attend a range of subspecialty clinics (Falls, Movement Disorder, Rapid Access Clinic for Elderly and General Frailty Clinics) as well as in a rostered way, gain Orthogeriatrics and Community Geriatrics experience.
The job covers 10 PA's including 9 clinical activities and 1 supportingactivities and CPD. There is an opportunity to join a weekend on call Rota (0900-1700) to cover the planned Community Unit, participating in this will enhance the total no. of PA's paid for. In addition, for suitably qualified and experienced candidates the Trust encourages taking up leadership roles 0.25 - 0.5 PA's.
