We are recruiting for a Pharmacy Porter - Dispensarywho shares our ambition and vision to deliver theBest of Care by the Best Peopleand has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.
The Pharmacy Porter is a key member of the Dispensary and wider Pharmacy team; they are responsible for the timely and efficient delivery of dispensed medications to wards using the Prescription Tracking System, as well as keeping accurate records of medication delivered outside of this system.
The Pharmacy Porter will also be expected to support the late-night pharmacy team in ensuring that all work for the day has been delivered to the appropriate area of the hospital before the Pharmacy closes for the day.
The Pharmacy Porter will also be expected to support the weekend Pharmacy team in line with the current weekend & bank holiday rota.
Main duties of the job
The sucessful candidate will be responsible for delivering dispensed items to wards, theatres and clinics across the site of Medway Hospital. They will use the Prescription Tracking System to record these deliveries and to maintain accurate records of reciept and custody of these medications.
They will be responsible for meeting delivery targets as well as representing both the Pharmacy department and Medway Hospital in a positive light, as per the visions and values of the trust.

The Pharmacy Porter is responsible for:
Physical delivery of dispensed medication via the Prescription Tracking System
Prioritisation of workload and timely delivery of medication
Sort, file and archive prescriptions and other relevant paper as advised as per standard operating procedures
Liaise with relevant ward Pharmacists and ward staff to provide an effective and efficient service
To prepare the ward and departments bags ready for delivery
Deliver pouches containing medicines to clinical areas and ensure that any prescription sheets collected from the wards are promptly delivered to the dispensary
If delivering controlled drugs ensure that they are personally handed to a registered nurse and signed for
Maintain and use of the electronic Tracker system
To assist in the delivery of urgent medication to the wards on an ad-hoc bases
To ensure that all medication delivered is signed for by an appropriate member of staff
Effectively and safely use the available methods for moving and handling products, e.g. the pallet truck and trolleys
To collect empty ward/department/theatre Pharmacy stock containers and return them to Pharmacy.
To support and assist all members of the pharmacy team and any other reasonable duties required of them
Participate in the late night service, weekend and bank holiday rotas as required
Report any complaints, incidents or near miss situations via the error reporting system and your line manager
Maintain a clean and tidy environment
To maintain an active portfolio of continuing professional development (CPD)
All pharmacy staff must show confidentiality with regard to any information about patients, confidential information about the Trust and commercial information (e.g. drug prices)
All work will be carried out in accordance with the relevant laws, the guidelines of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and the General pharmaceutical council, Trust and departmental procedures and standards of professional practice
