Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide ward rounds, administrative and audit duties.

The successful candidate is advised to participate in research projects and to attend various departmental teaching seminars and regional/national postgraduate meetings.

The post holder duties will ensure that he/she continues to gain appropriate clinical Urology experience.

The post holder is expected to start the day promptly to receive any hand-over patients admitted the night before, continuity of care for in-patients and participate in Consultant ward rounds.

The successful candidate is expected to be flexible in the exact hours worked each day.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide a service for Urology to the hospital and community designated with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.

Specialty Doctors are senior members of the Trusts medical staff, and in this role they have responsibility for assisting in the provision of a total Urological service, including supporting the multi-disciplinary weekly meetings and participate in training and education for the junior medical staff, medical students and nurses

The post holder will provide a Urological Service to the Medway Foundation Trust. Candidates must hold full registration with the General Medical Council.

The successful candidate will be responsible to and work under the supervision of Consultant Urologists.

The post holder will be expected to participate in the day to day activities of the department in co-operation with the Urology team.

It is also expected that the Specialty Doctor will ensure that the Electronic Discharge Notifications are completed and accurate.

The post holder will be expected to work as part of a cohesive team with all members in the Surgical department. This post comprises of a mix of elective, emergency and clinic work with a commitment to the middle grade on-call rota, as well participation in the non resident on-call rota every 1/6.

The department ensures all in-patient referrals are seen within 24 hours (Mon-Fri) and with the help of junior surgical staff, investigations are completed so that management decisions are taken efficiently.

It is important that the post holders communicate well with their Surgical and Urology colleagues are to expedite the management of Urology inpatients.

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • FRCS, MRCS or equivalent qualification
  • Shall have completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training, at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty, or have equivalent experience.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council and a valid licence to practise with the General Medical Council
