Main duties of the job
Reporting to the Director of Integrated Governance, Quality and Patient Safety, this post forms part of the Integrated Governance and Quality Senior Leadership Team and supports the delivery of the Trust's Quality Strategy and vision through the delivery of effective Health & Safety Systems and Processes to ensure the Trust is compliant with its regulatory duties such as GDPR.

The post holder will be the expert in the field of Health & Safety acting as the designated competent person to;
Promote a proactive, positive, evidenced-based and Trust wide approach to gathering and acting upon health and safety information and ensuring effective training is in place.
Facilitate a culture that improves health and safety through leading and managing all aspects of the Trusts procedures, including manual handling and risk assessment processes in line with current Government Legislation, Regulations, Policy Guidance and good practice.
Ensure the timely and effective investigation of health and safety incidents, ensuring that regulatory duties are completed.
Inform and advise the Chief Executive, Trust Board, Governors and partners on all aspects relating to health & safety, including timeliness and responsiveness of incident reporting and management and recommended action for practice development.

Essential
- Professional knowledge acquired through a degree or equivalent, plus specialist knowledge acquired through post-graduate courses or specialist courses
- NEBOSH Diploma or NCRQ Diploma
- Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner such as CMIOSH
Desirable
- Previous Experience within the NHS is desirable
Experience, Skills & Knowledge
Essential
- Knowledge and understanding of H&S and Fire legislation and regulation, eg. EEC 'six pack', HASAW Act, CQC Standards and NHS Resolution requirements
- Knowledge of risk management
- Experience of reporting against Performance indicators and health & Safety metrics
- Line Management experience
Desirable
- Understanding of the healthcare environment in both acute and community settings
- Knowledge of the principles of auditing and of developing audit proposals
