The post holder will be the Specialist Pharmacist for the Gastroenterology and hepatitis C service at Medway NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will be the department lead for all activity relating to Gastroenterology and Hepatitis C prescribing as part of the King's Hepatitis C Operational Delivery Network (ODN). They will be a role model, working to a high level within the pharmacy department.
Specialist Pharmacists are expected to have a key leadership role, acting as a role model for others. They will communicate and maintain excellent working relationships with all those that use, commission and work within the services delivered.

To be responsible for providing and overseeing the pharmacy clinical service provided to the gastroenterology/endocrinology wards within the hospital
Carry out education and counselling of new patients at the start of direct acting anti-viral therapy (DAA) for hepatitis C.
Ensures the provision of a proactive, high quality, cost effective, safe and responsive service to gastroenterology and hepatology.
To actively develop the gastroenterology and hepatitis C pharmacy service, exploring opportunities for clinically advanced services, such as review of patients in clinic.
To provide a clinical ward pharmacy service to the gastroenterology wards and lead on the education and training of other members of pharmacy and MDT in the pharmaceutical management of these patients.
Check the clinical accuracy and appropriateness of prescriptions for patients
Ensure funding is in place for patients prior to the supply of DAA medications.
To ensure the appropriate ordering of medicines for gastroenterology and hepatitis C to ensure medicines are available for patients and to minimise wastage from unused or expired medicines.
To provide expert pharmacist support to the Trusts hepatitis C/gastroenterology clinics with the specialist CNS.
Attend a weekly MDT with the hepatitis C team, providing expert pharmaceutical advice.
To actively lead on biologic switches for gastroenterology to ensure CIPs and gain share savings where appropriate are realised.
To support with leadership of the homecare department in the absence of the Lead Homecare pharmacist and with the screening of Homecare prescriptions, especially but not exclusively with the screening of gastroenterology and hepatology patients.
Prescribing for hepatitis C patients in clinic and following the recommendations of the MDT.
To be the pharmacy department liaison with the wider MDT for gastroenterology and hepatitis C.
To identify and implement opportunities for the efficient use of medicines in gastroenterology and hepatology.
To support with the late night, weekend and bank holiday rota as part of the departments 7 day services.
To develop a personal audit and research portfolio within heptatitis C, gastroenterology or pharmacy practice.

Qualifications
Essential
- Master's degree in pharmacy
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacist in the UK (or eligible to be)
- Specialist post graduate qualification such as clinical diploma or equivalent experience
Desirable
- Non-medical Independent Prescribing Qualification.
Knowledge
Essential
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of medicine in Gastroenterology and Hepatology
- Knowledge of and ability to apply all aspects of regulatory legislation and guidelines
