We are recruiting for a Trainee Advanced Critical Care Practitioner who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best Peopleand has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.

Main duties of the job

Our Critical Care Department is one of the busiest in the South East of England comprising a total of 24 beds: 9 level 3 ICU beds and 16 level 2 HDU beds, in which we care for 1800-2000 critically ill patients per annum. The dynamic nature of our work and the role of the ACCP makes it a very stimulating and exciting place to work. We have been involved with the ACCP role since 2016 and currently have 4 qualified ACCPs working as part of our critical care team. We now wish to expand our ACCP workforce further.

As a trainee ACCP you will benefit from excellent training and development opportunities, and superb support from within our department, which has been rated "outstanding" by the Care Quality Commission since 2020.

The Trust is pleased to announce that a new opportunity has arisen to become part of our Critical Care team as an Advanced Critical Care Practitioner (ACCP). This is a two year training post, which is fully accredited with the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine and the Anglia Ruskin University.

Successful applicants will commence as trainee ACCPs at Band 7 and after successful completion of the training period culminating with an MSc in Advanced Critical Care Practitioner, you will transition into a full time ACCP within the Critical Care Department as a Band 8a.

Within this ever changing and evolving environment we are looking to recruit dynamic and enthusiastic staff members who will work well as part of the multi-disciplinary team while engaging with and driving forward this role within this clinical setting. Fundamental to this role is patient centered, clinically driven care, flexibility, valuing people, promotion of lifelong learning and team-working.

The academic aspect of the role will be undertaken in association with the Higher Educational Institute at Anglia Ruskin University, based at the Chelmsford campus. The clinical aspect of the role will be undertaken based within the critical care department at Medway NHS Foundation Trust.

Appointed ACCP trainees will have a nominated Intensive Care Unit Consultant Educational Supervisor and follow the FICM Advanced Critical Care Practitioner competency-based training program. The successful applicant will be able to further develop their career in this exciting new role and help shape the vision for Critical Care and the role of the ACCP within this environment.

Successful applicants will require as a minimum, a degree level qualification as they will be required to complete a Masters degree at the FICM recognised High Education Institution, Anglia Ruskin University, based at the Chelmsford campus and will receive funding and study time accordingly. Additionally, ACCP trainees must come from a base profession that supports Non-Medical Prescribing, as independent prescribing is fundamental to the ACCP role.
