Main duties of the job
The Trust has a position for Clinical Director of the Peri-Operative & Critical Care Care Group. As part of the Care Group leadership triumvirate, you will provide strong, visible, professional leadership and focus for the delivery of the Best of Care throughout the Division. You will be accountable for a range of services across the Care Group ensuring high quality, flexible and responsive service delivery. You will plan, develop, coordinate and evaluate the services provided.
You will deputise for the Divisional Medical Director, and be accountable for high standards of care and behaviour across the relevant professional group.

The Clinical Director will provide leadership and direction for the Care Group, ensuring that the service adopts a continuous improvement approach which includes the Patient First methodology.The Clinical Director will ensure that all clinical staff are aligned with the Division's and Trust's objectives and are working in effective multidisciplinary/multi professional teams.The Clinical Director will oversee the management of all resources and staff to meet targets, quality standards, controls and resource constraints set out in the Divisions annual business plan.As a member of the Medical Board, the post holder will contribute to the strategic management and direction of the Trust.The Clinical Director will line manage Specialty Leads and provide specific medical leadership to medical staff within the Care Group to ensure a strong and motivated medical workforce.The Clinical Director will work with the Divisional Medical Director to ensure that robust systems for clinical governance are implemented and maintained for all areas of responsibility.The Clinical Director will have ultimate clinical & managerial responsibility for the safe, efficient and productive running of ICU (9-beds), HDU (15 beds), the Outreach service, the Resuscitaion service and the Critical Care Rehabilitation team (NB: Anaesthesia has a separate Clinical Director).In line with Trust and Divisional strategies, the post holder with be responsible for delivering key performance indicators such as minimising delays to admissions & discharges to Critical Care.

Essential
- Fully registered medical practitioner with the GMC, ideally on the Specialist Register for Intensive Care Medicine (although being on the Specialist Reister for a different base specialty is also acceptable).
Experience
Essential
- Established Consultant in Critical care, or a new Consultant in Critical Care who has had formal management training.
- Track record managing NHS teams and services at a senior level preferably within an Acute Trust is preferable.
- Successful track record of effective business planning and service development.
- Strong commitment to delivering change and performance with and through your management and clinical teams, by establishing clear work priorities with them, delegating effectively, ensuring a capability to deliver, monitoring performance and giving feedback.
- Delivering services which are safe and have measurably effective outcomes.
