Main duties of the job

The post holder will line manage a small friendly team consisting of a librarian, a senior library assistant, and a library assistant. A qualification in Librarianship/ Information Science at degree or post-graduate level is essential. You will ideally have a background in healthcare or academic librarianship and be familiar with resources to support healthcare professionals.

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in library/information science
  • Chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Quality Improvement Certificate/degree

Knowledge

Essential

  • Highly developed knowledge of the principles and practices of healthcare KLS science as well as a working knowledge of NHS policy
  • Knowledge of NHS management and improvement planning

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable postgraduate experience in professional library or information or knowledge posts principally at a senior level with direct responsibility for planning and delivering services
  • Extensive management experience working as a knowledge and library specialist in an NHS Trust or academic library with developing services and managing resources to meet user needs and with proven track record of leadership and innovation
  • Experience of financial procedure and managing budgets in the public sector. Setting and running budgets
  • Demonstrable experience of management of staff, including development and appraisal
