Main duties of the job
Within this role applicants must have FRCS(general Surgery) or equivalent. It will be expected that you will provide clinical leadership in the delivery of a high quality surgical service.
Within this role you will work in conjunction with colleagues, to provide a comprehensive emergency surgical service and to contribute to the emergency general surgery on call rota.
As a consultant you will participate in relevant audit and quality assurance processes, including reviews of manpower requirements.

The appointee is expected to contribute towards management of elective and emergency general surgery. The elective surgical activities will be finalized after the job plan meeting in line with other emergency surgeons colleagues
The appointee will be on-call with 11 other members of the department. The on call rota will be a 1:12 cycle. Weekend on calls will occur on a 1:12 basis. The rota is currently under development and further changes are likely over the coming months. During annual, and study-leave it is expected that consultants provides cross cover.
The appointee will contribute to the development of the emergency surgical rota
The appointee will play a major role in developing emergency surgical pathways with an emphasis on ambulatory care
The appointee will provide teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate level. A major role in the teaching medical students is expected.
The appointee will abide by the clinical and corporate governance policies of the trust.

- Entry on Specialist Register in surgery (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date)
