Job summary

We seek experienced Health Care Support Workers to join the team in our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), the Hartsholme Centre, which opened in the Summer of 2024.

This is an exciting time to join LPFT as we continue our journey of service improvement.

Our staff supports people in one of the most critical stages of their mental illness. The PICU is a 10-bed, male-only unit based in central Lincoln.

To be successful in this role, you need to be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and empathetic. You will need excellent communication skills, be resourceful and keen to contribute actively in patient care, as a key role in the team.

Main duties of the job

o Achieve and maintain high standards of cleanliness at all times, in line with NHS National Standards of Cleanliness and Infection Control policy:

o Use of all cleaning equipment and materials appropriately and effectively to provide a clean and safe environment

o Cleaning of all areas within the unit, both on the wards and the off-ward areas as defined in the cleaning schedules

o Daily inspection of electrical cleaning equipment before use and the reporting of any faults as appropriate

o Disposal of all waste by trust policies

o Damp dusting of all fixtures and fitting/internal glass

o Ensure all soft furnishings, curtains, and soft flooring are cleaned and maintained as required

o Changing curtains when required and re-hanging as necessary

o Any other duties as related to housekeeping within the unit.

o Prepare and regenerate meals for patients. Maintain all food safety records in line with the Food Safety Manual, Catering Policy, and all food safety legislation.

o Ensure patient area is readied for meal service, and clear related crockery/cutlery etc after meal service, ensuring these are washed appropriately.

o Maintain stocks of cleaning materials on wards and admin areas.

You will be part of a team that works closely with your nursing colleagues on the wards to ensure that service users are cared for in a clean and comfortable environment. The role will include a variety of cleaning duties, preparation of meals, and the replenishment of hot and cold beverages.

Good communication skills and the ability to work within a team is essential. Care Certificate in support services and basic food hygiene certificates are desirable, but training can be provided. Previous experience of working within a hospital/caring environment would be preferable.

The successful applicant will be expected to work, days, evenings, weekends and bank holidays on a shift work basis.
