Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Older Adult Mental Health, Home Treatment Team (OA MH HTT) for a Health Care Support Worker. OA MH HTT is a hospital at home team who support older adult in their on homes where ever this may be.

The Health Care Support worker will work alongside the Registered Nurse and other HCAs offering support and implementing care under the direction of the RNs. This post require under the direction of the Registered Nurses and wider MDT. OA MH HTT is a 365 day working service. Full driving License is required for this post as the OA MH HTT is community based covering the whole of the County.

As an HCA you will be supporting our service users with recovery focused psychological interventions. This may include supporting the person with activity, daily planning, getting out and about, encourage self care, monitoring physical health, talking and spending quality time with the person. Our HCAs are an important part of the HTT.

Main duties of the job

Under the supervision of a registered nurse participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of high quality care within the home environment, through involvement in the implementation of patient care.

Promote equality for all services users. Participate in recreational and physical activities with our service users promoting mental health recovery. Undertaking physical observations such a recording blood pressure, carrying out ECGs, and routine bloods (though training will be offered if these skill are not present).

Ensuring accurate records are kept. Demonstrate awareness of the service users and care perspective on the provision of treatment and continuing care. Being able to work on your own initiative as necessary and report to the Nurses.

This role may involve occasions where the HCA will need to work automatously under the support of the HTT team. See Job description for more in-depth information.

  • NVQ Level 3 in Care or equivalent
  • NVQ level 3 in Promoting Independence or equivalent or working towards achievement.
