Job summary

Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT) is rated as an outstandingly well-led Trust by the CQC and is committed to innovation and transformation. To bolster our efforts and continue to provide high quality, patient focussed services, we are seeking a Consultant to join the Community Mental Health team, as part of our Older People and Frailty division. We are looking for a doctor who is passionate and committed to the development of Older People and Frailty psychiatry and who is able to support a wide range of mental health services for those over the age of 65 with dementia and functional psychiatric disorders including patients with early onset dementia. The post holder will be responsible for community patients residing within Gainsborough and Lincoln South localities and will work as an integral member of the community mental health Team (CMHT). The CMHT is also supported by Home Treatment Teams that manage patients escalating to emergency, crisis, or potential admissions.

The role is full-time at 10PAs per week, with an additional PA as part of recruitment and retention. We are interested in hearing from anyone who is interested in a flexible working pattern, which would include job share and part time. As the role will entail home visits and travel across the county, it is integral that the postholder is able to travel via car, due to limited public transport.

Main duties of the job

To provide a comprehensive psychiatric service to the older people residing in parts of West Lincolnshire comprising Gainsborough, South Lincoln, and surrounding areas. This entails assessment, diagnosis and treatment of all age organic/dementia and functional disorders in over 65s, although younger adults meeting certain eligibility criteria on the local transitional protocol may be suitable for the service.

To play a leading role in supporting the Community Mental Health Team for older people. As an integral member of a MDT there will be an expectation to participate in local weekly team meetings where cases are discussed and management plans formulated. The role of the specialty doctor within then team is to deal with complex cases and support other members of the team so that they practice independently as much as possible.

To support the Memory Assessment Service and Management Service (MAMS) by contributing to making/formulating diagnoses of dementia in the early stage as well as managing more complex behavioural and psychological problems in the latter stage.

To be familiar and up to date with relevant mental health and capacity act legislation in relation to the care of older people. There will be a requirement to carry out mental health act and capacity assessments or DOLs assessments when required

To be available to act as a Section 12(2) and DOLs approved doctor for the purposes of the Mental Health and Capacity (DOLs) Assessments.
