As the Trust's Medication Safety Officer you will work closely with quality & safety leads to ensure medicines safety, good reporting culture, learning from incidents and quality improvement is a top priority across all disciplines.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will act as the Trust's Medicines Safety Officer and be the professional lead and Deputy Chair for the Medicines Safety Group. They will have the required skills to lead and manage the provision of medicines safety and governance agenda.

To work closely with Trust patient safety and quality team and other staff in the Trust with medicines related roles, to identify, understand and evaluate medicines incident/error rates through Datix. To develop/recommend action plans to encourage a good reporting culture exists in the Trust and to help improve patient safety using quality improvement methodology where possible.

To provide expert review and opinion on other safety and review forums around medicines related incidents or risks.

To lead the monitoring and review of medicines safety related Trust medicines policies, procedures and guidelines in line with local and national guidance or legislation.

The post-holder will also deliver a high quality clinical pharmacy service to allocated wards/teams.

To be a member of the regional MSO in MH and CHS forum to share Trust learning and bring good practise examples back to the Trust for consideration of implementation.

To have oversight of recommendations relating to medicines use made following serious incident reviews.

To deliver a high quality clinical pharmacy service to allocated wards or CMHT.

  • Statutory registration with the GPhC
  • Clinical or psychiatric postgraduate diploma
