Job summary

Are you an ambitious and flexible RMN or SW?

The Lincolnshire Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion (CJL&D) provides mental health professional cover for 4 custody suites, 2 magistrates courts, and the crown court in Lincolnshire. The role involves:

  • Assessing and referring on people of all ages and vulnerabilities, contributing to diverting them from the criminal justice system where appropriate.
  • Working closely with the police, courts and wider CJL&D team and writing structured reports for use in the Magistrates court

This post is suitable for a RMN or SW with SIGNIFICANT experience of working in mental health with vulnerable adults or children. Willingness to work closely with partner agencies is essential. The post involves high levels of autonomous clinical practice around risk assessment and defensible decision making.

You will work a 9am - 5pm system.1456+389/3

Travel across Lincolnshire is necessary, mileage is paid. Police (Level 2) vetting is necessary for this post.

Main duties of the job

This post is to work within the police custody suites and magistrates courts; working with persons within the criminal justice system where potential mental health, learning disability or other vulnerability need is suspected and further assessment is indicated to inform disposal of the case. To identify care pathways for appropriate onward referral/support this involves a commitment to close partnership working with other agencies and a commitment to working with a diverse range of persons with varying needs

Job responsibilities

To attend policy custody suites and magistrates courts and provide assessments, advice and identify robust care pathways for persons where a potential vulnerability has been identified

To provide the police and magistrates courts with written information pertaining to the person in a timely fashion to inform disposal (SfJDA1)

To work closely and build links with all referring agencies within the custody suites, magistrates courts and probation acting as a single point of contact for health (SFJAD1)

To address the courts in person when necessary in order to advise the court in the disposal and care pathway of a particular case

To refer to the persons General Practitioner, appropriate primary, secondary, specialist or statutory services for support/treatment

To make recommendations to the CPS/Police or magistrates courts whether the criminal justice system remains involved or if diversion is indicated

To build a good working knowledge of the MHA in relation to the police, magistrates courts and criminal justice system

Where diversion is indicated, to facilitate MHA assessments at the police station or magistrates courts in conjunction with the local authority Approved Mental health Practitioner Service

To refer to the prison in-reach teams where custody is indicated ensuring appropriate information is received along the care pathway and criminal justice pathway

To provide specialist complex advice and service to police and the custody suites/courts where indicated

To provide health information on persons vulnerabilities to probation in the formulation of their pre-sentence reports where a potential vulnerability need has been identified

To be responsible for adhering to all LPFT Policies and Procedures

To be able to communicate effectively with a diverse group of persons with identified vulnerabilities (SFJAB1, SFJAB8)
