Job summary

The Older Adult and Frailty Division is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to work within the Lincoln Based Community Mental Health Team at Witham Court. Witham Court provides a wide range of mental health services to Older People in Lincolnshire including memory assessment and management, community mental health services, out-patient clinics, in-patient services, and Intensive Home Treatment.

The post holder will work alongside another consultant colleague to provide comprehensive community psychiatric service to West Lincolnshire (comprising Gainsborough, Lincoln City and Lincoln South localities) for those over the age of 65 with dementia and functional psychiatric disorders including patients with early onset dementia.

The post holder will be responsible for community patients residing within Gainsborough and Lincoln South localities and will work as an integral member of the community mental health Team (CMHT). There are no inpatient responsibilities attached to this role as this is provided by consultant colleagues working in the Acute Care Pathway. The CMHT is also supported by Home Treatment Teams that manage patients escalating to emergency, crisis, or potential admissions. The post holder will have admitting rights to all older adult acute inpatient units within the Trust, but all care and treatment for patients admitted to these units will be provided by a separate dedicated inpatient multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

To provide a comprehensive psychiatric service to the older people residing in parts of West Lincolnshire comprising Gainsborough, South Lincoln, and surrounding areas. This entails assessment, diagnosis and treatment of all age organic/dementia and functional disorders in over 65s, although younger adults meeting certain eligibility criteria on the local transitional protocol may be suitable for the service.

To play a leading role in supporting the Community Mental Health Team for older people. As an integral member of a MDT there will be an expectation to participate in local weekly team meetings where cases are discussed and management plans formulated. The role of the specialty doctor within then team is to deal with complex cases and support other members of the team so that they practice independently as much as possible.

To support the Memory Assessment Service and Management Service (MAMS) by contributing to making/formulating diagnoses of dementia in the early stage as well as managing more complex behavioural and psychological problems in the latter stage.

To be familiar and up to date with relevant mental health and capacity act legislation in relation to the care of older people. There will be a requirement to carry out mental health act and capacity assessments or DOLs assessments when required

To be available to act as a Section 12(2) and DOLs approved doctor for the purposes of the Mental Health and Capacity (DOLs) Assessments.
