Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Staff Nurse at Langworth ward Witham Court.

Langworth ward is an 18 bedded acute assessment ward for older adults experiencing mental health problems associated with dementia. The ward is challenging, fast paced and offers excellent opportunities for professional development. The OPFD have embarked upon extensive service re-modelling and refocus of the clinical pathway and associated care processes on Langworth ward to align to a psychological model/way of working. This is in line with evidence-based practice in dementia care and will form a continuous pathway with the Dementia home treatment team. The focus of our care is to provide assessment and treatment for our patients in a safe and compassionate environment. The staff nurse would be expected to work closely with the team in the delivery, evaluation and development of the care programme approach and be forward thinking and innovative in the on-going development of service provision. The candidate must be genuinely patient, and carer focussed on their approach. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, determination, drive and an ability to manage their workloads in a challenging ever-changing environment. The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate an understanding of the complexities and challenges for patients with dementia and for their careers.

Main duties of the job

1.Implement evidence-based practice in the provision of treatment and care to clients, demonstrating sound clinical decision-making skills that are in the interests of the client.

2.Provide skilled clinical and management supervision to others while demonstrate the ability to lead a clinical team.

3.Actively contribute to the improvement of service delivery and practice development.

4.Demonstrate service user and/or carer involvement in all aspects of service provision.

5.Contribute to the formulation of policies, procedures and clinical guidelines.

6.Construct, deliver and evaluate a programme of training with clear desired educational outcomes.

7.Demonstrate the ability to empower others in the identification of their strengths and weaknesses.

  • Relevant experience of working with adults with mental health needs. Or clear evidence of substantial experience of working with individuals in crisis and skills that are transferable to both the community/in-patient. Highly developed clinical reasoning skills.
  • Sound knowledge of the national agenda for mental health.
  • Sound knowledge of clinical/risk assessment and understanding of Information Governance principles.
