Job summary

Lincolnshire Partnership Foundation NHS Trust is an IAPT site, which provides psychological therapy to Lincolnshire residents who are experiencing a common mental health problem. A vacancy has arisen for a Counsellor/IPT Lead within the service, to clinically lead colleagues based in teams across the county from both professional groups.

We are looking for someone innovative to join our Clinical Leadership Group to ensure that the needs of counsellors/IPT therapists are represented and addressed. In turn, this will enable us to provide the best service possible for the people of Lincolnshire, placing service users at the heart of everything we do.

The successful post holder will need work autonomously with a caseload and administration/planning. Duties will include planning/organising continuous professional development, liaising with universities regarding training, leading counselling/IPT meetings, facilitating and overseeing clinical supervision and offering an expert opinion in case discussions.

The role will include travel across Lincolnshire and base will be discussed/confirmed at interview.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the development of best practice within the service

To maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and procedures

To formulate, implement and evaluate plans for the counselling treatment and/or management of a client's emotional and mental health problems, based on appropriate conceptual framework of the client's problems, and employing evidence-based interventions.

Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach

To evaluate clinical outcomes using IAPT compliant rating scales and measures and to ensure completion of all requirements relating to data collection within the service.

Undertake psychological assessments of patients referred to the service. Assessments will include identification of the patient's problem, comprehensive risk assessment and identification of goals for therapy.

To support the development of Trainee/Bank/Volunteer counsellors within the steps2change teams.

To attend CPD and mandatory training provided by the Trust.

To provide clinical supervision for band 6 counsellors and other steps2change Counsellors/Therapists as required.

Planning and organising CPD events for the counselling/IPT modalities

To monitor regular clinical supervision is provided to Counsellors/IPT and Trainee/Volunteer counsellors within the steps2change teams.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma in counselling (therapeutic) or equivalent (Recognised Core Professional trainings that allow access to CFD/DIT/IPT/CTFD training programs and accreditation with the regulating body) and
  • Successful Completion of one of the IAPT High Intensity treatment intervention training courses: Counselling for Depression(CFD)/Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT)/Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)/Couples Therapy for Depression (CTFD) and
  • Accreditation with regulatory body associated to clinical practice -BACP/UKCP/CPC/BPS/IPTUK - Knowledge of and commitment to appropriate ethical framework.
  • Training in supervision

Desirable

  • Completion of 2 IAPT High Intensity qualifications.
  • Degree in counselling from accredited training provider.

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post qualification counselling practice supervised to BACP/UKCP/IPTUK accreditation requirements.
  • Experience of working in Primary Care services.
  • Highly experienced in working therapeutically with a diverse and complex patient population, including patients from diverse ethnic backgrounds, using interpreters if needed. Sensitive to and respectful of patients' differing cultural, religious and social issues.
  • Confident in autonomously undertaking assessments, identifying risk issues and taking appropriate preventative action to ensure patient safety in accordance with NHS policy, professional guidelines and relevant protocols.
  • Worked in a service where agreed targets are in place demonstrating clinical outcomes.
