Clinical Lead Lincoln Mental Health Liaison Service (Band 7)

An exciting job opportunity is available to work as a Band 7 Clinical Lead in Lincoln MHLS. The Lincoln MHLS is a 24-hour Service, it meets CORE 24 Standards and is PLAN accredited with The Royal College of Psychiatrists (2022). It is based at the Peter Hodgkinson Centre, Lincoln County Hospital Site and covers A&E Dept. and approx. 600 Acute Trust beds.

The Lincoln MHLS provides Biopsychosocial assessment, case management and signposting for all Mental Health Conditions for Patients aged 16yrs to no upper age limit. The Lincoln MHLS embodies the skills and knowledge of Adult Consultant Psychiatrist (Service Clinical Lead), Older Age Psychiatrist, SAS Medical Staff, Junior Medical Staff, Non-Medical Prescriber, Registered Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Drug and Alcohol Liaison Worker, Peer Support Workers, Medical Secretaries, and a Team Administrator.

We are looking for someone with strong leadership skills, the ability to lead on Complex and unpredictable care events, overall leadership and management responsibilities for the team and an effective and compassionate communicator.

Main duties of the job

To provide the overall clinical and managerial leadership of the Acute Hospital Mental Health Liaison Service. This position is both Clinical and Managerial with a team composition made up of Nursing, Allied Healthcare Professionals, Administrative and Medical representation. As clinical lead you will provide the expert knowledge within your area of specialism as well as line managing the service of Lincoln MHLS

Job responsibilities

A key role of the post holder will be to formulate and maintain good working relationships with the staff in the acute trust and to support the delivery of key performance indicators (KPIs) assigned to the service. The role requires a professional registration in health or social care with up-to-date accreditation / CPD RMN, Dip SW, BSc Occupational Therapy or equivalent. In addition, substantial experience as a liaison mental health practitioner at Band 6 or above in the general hospital setting Support the management of an integrated Mental Health Liaison Team, providing clinical leadership, supervision, support and consultation to nursing staff and MDT staff, in line with relevant clinical pathways as outlined within the operational procedures. Be expected to undertake and support Band 6 practitioners to provide mental health assessments for people attending the Emergency Department, offering highly developed clinical and risk assessments and managements plans Provide a service to the wards within the general hospital, assessing individuals with a range of complex physical and mental health needs. This would include both functional and organic illnesses of later life in addition to younger people Develop and provide training and support to acute hospital staff regarding recognising mental health conditions and appropriate management and onward referral pathways Provide information and clinical support to police and ambulance staff in order to help them make appropriate pathway decisions Provide support and care for individuals brought to an identified Place of Safety under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act and co-ordinate the assessment process. To manage the workload of the Mental Health Liaison team, ensuring systems are in place to enable effective and efficient performance. Ensure implementation of the service working procedures as well as managerial and professional policies. To effectively manage staff and provide managerial supervision and annual personal development plan in accordance with Trust policies To provide effective leadership to the team within a high-pressure environment, managing own emotions and those of others. To support the service manager to work with and monitor performance indicators for key performance indicators ensuring data quality is maintained To ensure professional supervision systems are in place. To participate in the recruitment and appointment of staff within agreed HR procedures. To chair MDT and team meetings, reviews, case conferences, planning meetings as required To work in partnership with other statutory, independent sector and other agencies, in the effective discharge of the duties of the post. To monitor and review health and safety of staff, service users and to provide regular monitoring reports to line manager. To manage staff sickness through the agreed sickness management policy/ procedures and to provide regular monitoring reports to the line manager. Establish quality standards relating to service user and carer experience and establish systems to monitor and audit these standards To deal appropriately with clinical incidents and complaints in accordance with trust policies. To effectively manage the referrals to the Mental Health Liaison Team ensuring a timely response within agreed KPIs. Report and investigate where breaches occur. To carry a reduced clinical caseload. To demonstrate clinical and practice expertise via interventions, supervision and modelling good practice. To provide in-reach into the Emergency Department and general hospital wards and competently undertake comprehensive mental health and risk assessments to identify the needs of individuals referred. To have an understanding of physical health conditions and the impact they can have on mental health To work in close liaison with staff within the Acute Trust and Health & Social Care Services in upholding and implementing clinical standards for the care of people with mental health needs within the Acute Trust.
