Job summary
The role is based on the Vales from Monday to Thursday, and the Fens on Friday. The Vales is a is a High Dependence 15 bedded Rehabilitation Ward for Women with Complex Mental Health needs and the Fens is a High Dependence Rehabilitation Ward for men. In both wards you will be a part of the Multidisciplinary Team providing care for the patients.
Dr Beena is the Consultant on The Vales and Dr Singh is the Consultant on The Fens. Both consultants are very supportive of their SAS doctors and foster both professional and personal development. Dr Beena is also the Director of Medical Education and Psychotherapy Tutor and has a vast wealth of experience in supporting SAS doctors in preparing for MRCPsych exams and building psychotherapeutic skills. We are proud of the fact that previous SAS doctors have completed the MRCPsych exams successfully and have gone on to train as Higher Specialist Trainees and becoming Consultants.
Main duties of the job
You will work closely with medical and multi-disciplinary colleagues and will have the following responsibilities:
- Day to day responsibility for managing patients on both the locked and open rehabilitation in conjunction with their clinical team
- The assessment and management of patients referred to the Rehabilitation Service
- Day to day responsibility for physical/psychiatric care of the 30 patients on the two wards
- Liaising with other professionals/agencies involved in the patients' care
- Attending care planning meetings, ward rounds, risk assessment and referral meetings
- Referral assessments as necessary
- Attend Mental Health Review Tribunals and Managers' Hearings
- Preparation of reports for case summaries, CPAs, Tribunal/Managers' Hearings, Discharge Summaries
- To participate in the postgraduate activities related to psychiatric services and to ensure CPD requirements are met
- To participate in departmental studies and the medical/clinical audit process
- So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties, you will undertake to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues, principally one of the Core Trainees in Rehabilitation Psychiatry.
- To work in liaison with the CT3 doctor to provide medical and psychiatric cover for the patients within Discovery House
- You will undertake, exceptionally to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances in order to provide continuity of patient care
