Director of Discovery

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

Our academic output across Moorfields and our primary academic collaborator, UCL, was the highest globally in ophthalmology when last assessed. It is within this fantastic historical context, coupled with the evolving possibilities arising from health data research that we are seeking to further develop our capabilities with the appointment of a Director of discovery, who will be key to the successful implementation of the organisation's strategy and help us to work collaboratively to optimise our discovery portfolio.

An executive search exercise is being undertaken by Perrett Laver in parallel with the public advertisement of the post.

Main duties of the job

The Director of Discovery is an executive member of the Trust Board, responsible for continuing, further improving and scaling our world-renowned research across the entire Moorfields system, and disseminating this locally, nationally and internationally.

Their remit will encompass the full spectrum of healthcare innovation delivered through a network of partnerships, foremost with the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology (IoO) and extending across public and private sectors globally. Moorfields Eye Hospital and the IoO are amongst the most productive clinical academic collaborations in the world.

This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the Moorfields agenda and help contribute to the discovery agenda internationally.

Candidates will offer a track record of achievement in research and development and spread and adoption of innovation. They will ideally have a deep understanding of the UK health research landscape across NHS and university sectors, substantial knowledge of the national health research policy framework and experience of spread and adoption and of commercialisation.

They will possess excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multiple internal and external stakeholders, including senior NHS and university leaders, academics, major funding bodies and industry.
