Job summary
The NIHR Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London has been awarded funding from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to optimise the delivery of world class research in ophthalmology and science associated with vision and sight. The CRF attracts research funding from the NIHR, Research Councils, Department of Health and Charities. The CRF is a key component of our future research strategy with a vision to drive up quantity and quality trials we win funding for and deliver. In addition, the CRF hosts students who have been awarded highly competitive doctoral and post-doctoral fellowships which demonstrate the breadth and quality of research activity. The CRF also caters to Moorfields NIHR Biomedical Research Centre for Ophthalmology, a joint initiative between Moorfields Eye Hospital and University College London Institute of Ophthalmology. The CRF is dedicated to the delivery of high-quality clinical research, including experimental medicine and translational research studies, pioneering new therapies for the treatment of a range of ophthalmic disorders. It offers a clinical environment in which patients and researchers are supported by a team of specialist research support staff including ophthalmic research nurses, administrators and technicians. The CRF is within the Discovery Board of the Trust that thrives in bringing the latest research to our patients.
Main duties of the job
The Director of Clinical Trials and Medical Statistics will have the strategic and operational responsibility for developing and delivering world class clinical trial strategies for the Trust working in close collaboration with the Director of Clinical Research Facility and Director of Discovery to design, develop and deliver clinical trial strategies and plans that enable the Trust to achieve its vision and objectives of being a global centre of excellence for eye care with sustainable positive impact on patients and national policies. The post holder will oversee delivery of a Trust Strategy to develop a National Ophthalmology Clinical Trial Network.
Reporting to the Director of Clinical Research Facility, this post is a core member of the Discovery leadership team with the principal responsibility for leading and inspiring researchers to develop and deliver large grants from multiple funding bodies that will enhances the operation and efficiency of the Trust's clinical research facility, operational and business services of Discovery. As a senior manager, the post holder will be expected to ensure that Discovery contributes to the successful implementation of the Trust research strategy, ensuring that departmental responsibilities are delivered through clear objectives and targets consistent with the Trust's performance and governance frameworks.
