Join the Excellence Delivery Unit Team
The Excellence Delivery Unit (XDU) was set up in June 2022 to support the organisation to deliver its 5 year strategy 'Working together to discover, develop and deliver excellent eye care, sustainably and at scale'. The organisation is at an exciting time, building a new hospital (Oriel), introducing an EPR and moving towards the future eye care pathway.
The Excellence Portfolio is comprised of key projects that support this strategy. The projects are overseen by executive chaired Excellence Programme Boards and a monthly portfolio board, chaired by the Chief executive. The role of the XDU is to provide assurance of project delivery, supporting them to set up for success and deliver in line with our project lifecycle.
Main duties of the job
This fixed term post is a key role within the Excellence Delivery Unit (XDU) team with a remit to coordinate the routine progress tracking of all Excellence Portfolio projects and enable high quality administration support is provided to the executive team.

Key responsibilities will include:
- Proactively oversee the implications across the Excellence Portfolio, demonstrating the ability to identify and highlight project delivery delays, particularly those affecting the critical path.
- Assist Excellence Delivery team to enhance capacity building within project teams by supporting to facilitate coaching and training initiatives.
- Provide guidance and support to improve team members' skills and effectiveness, including facilitating and highlighting opportunities to explore tailored training programs, hands-on coaching, and developing forums for sharing best practices.
- Ensure team members are well-equipped to handle project demands and contribute to successful outcomes.
- Actively develop mitigations for ongoing issues and risks, ensuring timely and effective solutions are implemented. This involves identifying potential challenges, assessing their impact, and coordinating with relevant stakeholders to execute strategies that minimise risk.
- Oversee effective utilisation of XDU project lifecycle and associated tools.
- Ensure accuracy of high-quality information presented for discussions at the Excellence Portfolio Board and Programme Boards.
- Identify and foster opportunities for collaboration, actively seeking ways to enhance teamwork and synergy across departments. This involves evaluating current processes to uncover potential areas for joint efforts, initiating cross-functional meetings to brainstorm collaborative solutions, and building strong relationships with key stakeholders to support a culture of cooperation and mutual support throughout the organisation.
