Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time permanent Principal Optometrist for research working 33.75 hours per week. The Role involves being the lead optometric research in Moorfields Eye Hospital. To provide advice to the Head of Optometry, Director of Research & Development, and Biomedical Research Centre for Ophthalmology management board on the strategic direction of optometric research.
The post holder will work closely with the Head of Department, clinical support service manager, divisional leads, service leads consultant & principal optometrists and to actively participate in ongoing development of the Hospital's Optometric Research portfolio.
The post holder will be responsible for developing the research of optometrists in the Optometry Department & the Hospital in conjunction with the Director of Research and Head of Optometry..
As well as being involved in the department quality and assurance procedures as well as educational and clinical objectives of the department.
Main duties of the job
To be the research lead for the Optometry Department.
To develop the research of optometrists in the Optometry Department & the Hospital in conjunction with the Director of Research and Head of Optometry
Work with the Head of Department, Deputy Head of Department, and other Principal/Senior Optometrists to develop and maintain a comprehensive research strategy.
Identify research opportunities and co-ordinate the research of the department.
Attract additional research money with a view to creating increased dedicated research time for staff on both a part-time and full-time basis.
Represent the Optometry Department at research meetings within UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital
Liaise & collaborate with other NHS trusts, Higher Education Institutions, Hospital Optometrists Committee (HOC), National Institute for Health & Care Research, and College of Optometrists to develop research programmes that promote optometric research in both primary & secondary care settings.
Liaise with Senior Optometrists in the translation of research into clinical practice & clinical policies.
